New Delhi: In a good news for travellers in the capital, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday announced reduction in fares on the premium Airport Express line.
In a press release, DMRC announced that fares will come down on the Airport Express by upto 50 percent effective September 18 (Friday).
“As per the revised fare structure applicable from this Friday, the minimum single journey fare on the corridor will be Rs 10 replacing the earlier minimum fare of Rs 20 and the maximum fare will be Rs 60 against the earlier maximum fare of Rs 100,” the press statement said.
“Therefore, a one way journey from the New Delhi station to Dwarka Sector 21 using Single Journey Token will now cost only Rs 60. The Fare Store Value Card offered to the commuters will have a further discount of 10 percent as well,” the release added.
Commuters can now travel from the New Delhi station to IGI Airport by paying a fare of Rs 60 compared to the earlier Rs 100.
Journey from Shivaji Stadium to IGI Airport will now cost Rs 50 as against Rs 80 earlier.
Rs 60 will be the fare from Shivaji Stadium to Dwarka Sector 21 and Rs 50 from New Delhi to Delhi Aerocity.
DMRC said the fares were being reduced to encourage commuters from the Dwarka sub-city to travel by the Airport Express line instead of the Blue Line.
“This will also help in decongesting the Blue Line, especially during the peak hours, as it is one of the busiest corridors of the Delhi Metro network,” DMRC said.
Earlier, the fares of the Airport Express line were decreased by up to 40 percent on July 24 last year. As a result of the measure, the average daily ridership of the corridor increased significantly.
