Now Delhi University teachers urge President to order probe into JNU incident

New Delhi: A teachers' association of Delhi University has urged the President to order a probe into the 'anti-national' sloganeering episode in JNU.

In a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, the teachers also urged him to look into the conditions that led to the incident, TOI reported.

Thursday's letter, signed by VS Negi, the general secretary of the National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF) of Delhi University, comes days after a group of teachers of IIT-Madras wrote a similar letter to the President.

NDTF said that while it fully supports freedom of speech, the right to dissent and freedom for presenting alternative paradigm, it stands firmly opposed to creating an environment against the unity and territorial integrity of the nation.

"What happened in JNU on 9th February, 2016 cannot be condoned on the pretext of freedom of speech and freedom of dissent," TOI quoted the letter as saying.
