Lamba, 5 AAP legislators stage walkout in Delhi assembly

AAP legislator Alka Lamba reiterated her demand for revocation of BJP lawmaker O.P. Sharma`s membership of the assembly.

New Delhi: AAP legislator Alka Lamba and five other party legislators walked out of the Delhi assembly on Friday, demanding fast-tracking of the decision by the house ethics committee on BJP lawmaker O.P. Sharma.

Lamba reiterated her demand for revocation of Sharma`s membership of the assembly. Sharma already stands suspended for the entire winter session of the Delhi assembly for his allegedly offensive remarks against Lamba.

The assembly on Thursday referred the matter to its ethics committee.

"We want justice to be delivered by the committee in this session only and we demand a fast-track trial on the issue as the matter is concerned with women`s security," said Lamba, who belongs to the Aam Aadmi Party.

"We will not return until the government assures us that decision will come in this session only by the ethics committee."

She opposed BJP legislator Vijender Gupta`s move to bring a "Stop Work" proposal.

"Yesterday (Thursday) BJP legislators blamed us for hindering work in the assembly due to our protest. But today at the beginning of the session, Vijender Gupta brought `Stop Work` Proposal. Why is this needed now?"
