Dentists hold candlelight march; demand job for Narang's kin

Dentists in the city on Sunday staged a candlelight march to condemn the recent murder of a member of their fraternity in west Delhi's Vikaspuri area.

New Delhi: Dentists in the city on Sunday staged a candlelight march to condemn the recent murder of a member of their fraternity in west Delhi's Vikaspuri area.

"He was the only male earning member in the family and so we urge both the central and the state governments to offer a job to one of his family members and some compensation and protection," President of the Indian Dental Association Praveen Verma said.

Verma and others condemned the killing of dentist Pankaj Narang who was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people on March 23 night.

Vice-president of the Delhi Dental Council and member of Dental Council of India Anil Chandna said the incident raises security concern for all doctors in hospitals or private clinics.

"Police's role has to be active and law and order needs to be strengthened," he said.

Chandna said that his death "should not be given communal colours".

Narang was dragged out of his Vikaspuri house and was beaten to death with bats, iron roads and hockey sticks by a group of 12 people.

The incident took place late night when Narang was playing cricket with his eight-year-old son and a nephew in a small space outside his house when the ball allegedly hit two men who were passing by on a motorcycle.

Nine persons including a woman and four juveniles have been arrested by the police.
