New Delhi: As Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa remains critical after she suffered cardiac arrest on Sunday, the political fraternity has expressed its concern over the troubling developments regarding her health of her.

Taking to Twitter, President Pranab Mukherjee said he was distressed to hear about Jayalalithaa suffering a cardiac arrest and prayed for her speedy recovery.

"Feeling bad to know abt da critical condition of TN CM Selvi Jayalalitha. Praying fr her speedy recovery and quick response 2 the treatment," Union Information and Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu tweeted.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it is very upsetting news that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister suffered a cardiac arrest, while DMK Chief M Karunanidhi also wished her speedy recovery.

Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly MK Stalin expressed hope that the treatment being given to the Chief Minister will yield result and she will recover soon. In his tweet, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said he is praying for Jayalalithaa`s quick recovery and expressed hope that she will get better very soon.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed concern.

Meanwhile, the state Government has sought the help of the Para military forces to handle the surging crowd in case of any emergency. Security has been stepped up across the city to attend any eventuality and buses plying out of Chennai have been reduced tonight and security in the capital has been tightened. In a statement, Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Hospital Dr Subbaiah Viswanathan said Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest yesterday evening and she is being treated and monitored by a team of experts and critical care specialists.
