In a joint press conference, British PM David Cameron said on Thursday that he wants the British companies to build smart cities in India and that his government is looking forward to build stronger economic ties with India.

PM Narendra Modi lands at London’s Heathrow Airport on a three day bilateral visit to the UK.

Modi received at Heathrow International Airport, among others, by British Minister of State for the Foreign Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire, British High Commissioner to India James David Evan, Indian High Commissioner to Britain Ranjan Mathai, and British Minister of State for Employment Priti Patel, who is of Indian origin.

PM Modi is expected to request his British counterpart David Cameron to crackdown on underworld don and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim's operations in the United Kingdom, a report said on Thursday.

Ever since Modi government came to power, it has repeatedly maintained that is committed to bring back fugitive ganglord Dawood Ibrahim to face law for his involvement in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Heavy security arrangements have been made at St James' Court Hotel, where PM Modi will stay during his visit to London.

After arriving in London Thursday afternoon, PM Modi will have talks with Cameron at 10 Downing Street. He will address a joint press conference at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) after the bilateral talks.

PM Modi will have a luncheon meeting with her majesty the Queen at the Buckingham Palace and he will also be the first Indian Prime Minister to address the UK Parliament.

His other engagements include a visit to BR Ambedkar's house in which he lived when he was a student at the London School of Economics as well as unveiling the bust of Sri Basaveshwara at the Thames river embankment.

Modi's visit to Britain is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister in nine years after Manmohan Singh's visit in 2006. Singh visited Britain in 2009 to attend the G-20 summit.
