1st Test, Day 1: Pakistan vs England - As it happened...

That is the end of first day. England have had a hard day with two missed chances by Ian Bell. But four wickets on a dead pitch too should be a bit positive for the visitors. Pakistan will know Wednesday's 1st session will be key. Malik and Asad have shared a 35-run partnership already and the duo will want to see Pakistan score a big total on Day 2. The last two overs were bowled with a new red cherry and the duo of Anderson and Broad will hope the ball talks the next day.

Misbah departs cheaply just for three. The umpire wasn't convinced that his bat had nicked the ball but the England players went for a referral. Third umpire gave the decision in favour of England despite lack of proper conclusion. Wicket maiden for Anderson.

OVERS 70 | SCORE 247/3 | (Malik 102, Misbhah 0)

Malik has scored a sublime ton in his return Test and Younis too was going well after surpassing Miandad as the top run getter for Pak in the longest version of the game. Broad did well to get his victim. Younis hits a ball straight to Cook at silly mid-on.

OVERS 54.2 | SCORE 173/2 | (Malik 72)

England will feel much better as they head out for tea. A difficult session for the fielding side but the wicket of Hafeez will boost their confidence. The Pakistani opener missed out on a ton and departed for 98 and soon tea was called. Ben Stokes made a confident appeal after rapping Hafeez on the pad, just above the knee roll. He’s moved across his stumps, which will have helped prompt the review, but Hawk-eye only confirms his departure. The ball is hitting the stumps.

OVERS 49 | SCORE 166-1 (Hafeez 95, Malik 67)

Pakistan have upped the temp with these two batting superbly. England bowlers look a bit tired under the heat and moreover Adil Rashid has been the source of party for the Pakistani duo. He has been hammered around 6 runs per over. Ben Stokes is bowling from the other end. Hafeez meanwhile is nearing a ton and he holds the key in which way this match heads next. Malik on the other hand is taking his time and is a reason for the frustration of the English bowlers.

OVERS 40 | SCORE 114/1 | (Hafeez 67, Malik 44)

Pakistan will feel they have got control here in the first day of the Test match. Hafeez and Malik are nicely moving along with the run-rate though below three runs per over. Broad and Ali have been bowling as a pair as England look for a wicket. 

OVERS 32 | SCORE 91/1 | (Hafeez 50, Malik 40)

Post lunch Anderson starts off with a maiden. Moeen meanwhile gives away six runs from his over. The pitch doesn't have much life and Anderson just sticks to basic line and length due to lack of availability and purchase. Moeen's next over is a tight one with only two singles purchased. Anderson continues and Hafeez brings up his fifty. This was his 11th Test fifty.

OVERS 27 | SCORE 82/1 | (Hafeez 44, Malik 36)

Lunch time here at Abu Dhabi! Pakistan have been the side that have dominated the first session so far. Moeen Ali is partnering Rashid for England's bowling as the Pakistan duo have rather handled them well. Hafeez sweeps Rashid for three runs as the rest of the over was pretty decent. Malik has been a bit defensive off late but given that lunch was on its way, it seems as a proper decision. The last over before lunch was a maiden with Ali bowling it.

OVERS 18 | SCORE 60/1 | (Hafeez 28, Malik 30)

Pakistan have made sure that they haven't lost another wicket. Hafeez and Malik are building a partnership that was essential for the Asian team. Adil Rashid has been dealt well with as the duo have eked out 15 runs from his three overs. Mark Wood is the other bowler and so far hasn't done anything special to trouble the batsmen on a slow pitch. Malik hits a four off Woods through silly mid-on and then Hafeez gets another scorching drive for a boundary. The partnership has risen up to 55.

OVERS 9 | SCORE 22/1 |  (Hafeez 11, Malik 9)

Double bowling change for England with Stokes and Woods replacing Anderson and Broad. Malik and Hafeez are seeing out the English bowlers and are looking to build a partnership slowly. Hafeez has got two boundaries to his name with Malik getting one. There’s really no pace and movement for seamers here in Abu Dhabi at all.

England get their first wicket. Shan Masood departs after an Anderson bouncer hits his helmet and rattles the stumps. Shoaib Malik is the new man in. Meanwhile, Stuart Broad is sharing the red cherry with Anderson.
