Widows from ashrams in Vrindavan played Holi at the Gopinath temple, defying a custom which forbids them from celebrating the festival of colours. According to a practice which was prevalent in West Bengal, widows were not only considered virtually untouchable, but also deprived of participation in any festival. Hence, this event was organised to bring these widows into the mainstream of society and efforts are made to make them self-reliant by training them to prepare herbal Gulal, 'agarbattis' (incense sticks), candles, said Supervisor of the event.

Priests, Pandas and devotees celebrated Holi at the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh`s Ujjain during the `Bhasma Aarti` on March 7. Bhasma aarti (offering with ashes) is a famous ritual here. It is performed during the Brahma Muhurta between 4 am and 5:30 am. On the occasion, the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakal temple got drenched with gulal and special Shringar (adorning) of Baba Mahakal was done with dry fruits and Bhang (Hemp).

Indian Stock Market To Remain Closed On Holi

Indian stock markets BSE and NSE will remain closed today on March 7 on account of Holi. The market will resume trade on March 8. 

Holi 2023 Delhi Metro Update: 

Om March 8, the Delhi Metro train services will begin from 2:30 pm on all lines including Rapid Metro/ Airport Express Line. As per officials, metro services will not be available until 2:30 pm in the national capital on all lines.
