One dead, two injured as militants attack Army patrol team in J&K's Kulgam

It comes a day after Hizbul militants gunned down seven people, including five policemen, in Kulgam district, prompting the army to launch a massive search operation to flush out the militants.

Srinagar: A civilian driver who was ferrying security personnel was killed and two others were injured when militants attacked an army patrol team in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday, media reports said.

A heavy gunfight erupted after the militants ambushed the patrol team on ahighway.

Nazir Sheikh, the civilian driver who was transporting the patrol team, succumbed to his injuries, ANI reported.

The development comes a day after Hizbul militants gunned down seven people, including five policemen, in Kulgam district, prompting the army to launch a massive search operation to flush out the terrorists.

The police have announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information on Umer Majid, a suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant involved in Wednesday's attack.

Posters of Majid were pasted on the walls of Kulgam, about 90 km from Srinagar, IANS reported.

The 22-year-old militant hails from Suchi village of the district.

Majid reportedly joined the terror group last year.

Last night, police had raided various places in the district as well as the adjoining Shopian following a tip off about the presence of the two militants involved in the attack.
