Man tied to Army jeep in J&K: Court of Inquiry instituted, report to be submitted within a month

Srinagar: The Army has instituted a Court of Inquiry into the alleged incident, where a youth was tied to the front of a moving Army jeep as a shield against stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir's Beerwah area.

The probe is headed by a Colonel rank officer and the report will be submitted within a month.

An FIR was also registered at Beerwah police station on Sunday, two days after a video showing a man being tied to an Army jeep as a shield against stone-pelters during the April 9 bypoll to the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency surfaced, drawing widespread condemnation and anger.

In the video that surfaced on April 14, Farooq Ahmad Dar from Khansahib in Budgam district is seen strapped to the front of a moving Army jeep.

A soldier can be heard saying, "This will be the fate of people who throw stones."

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, tweeting his shock over the video, wrote: "This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!"
