Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recovered a letter written by 2001 Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani seeking help to get him transferred from Delhi’s Tihar Prison to Srinagar central jail.
The letter was found during the raid at the residence of Geelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah ‘Funtoosh’ on June 03, 2017, as part of NIA's probe into terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir.
A copy of the letter, dated September 06, 2011, is with Zee Media.
“I request you to ask Omar Abdullah (then chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir) to reply to the Supreme Court notice about my jail transfer instead of talking about passing the resolution in the Assembly which I do not need at all,” wrote Guru.
Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar jail on February 09, 2013.
The NIA had registered a case on May 30 against separatist leaders, including members of the Hurriyat, who it said were in connivance with militants from outlawed groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Lashkar-e-Toiba and others for raising and receiving funds.
Investigators said the funds were received by the separatists through illegal means, including hawala channels, for funding terrorist and other activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
