Oh My God

Mumbai, Dec 05: After excellent work in `Dasvidaniya` and ‘Bheja Fry,’ one expected something outstanding out of Vinay Pathak, but ‘Oh My God’ literally makes one scream and think, "Oh My God, is an example of stupid audacity by the makers, who have created such an insufferable work." Directed by Saurabh Srivastava, the film is an extremely boring attempt at comedy. The film revolves around the theme that God does listen to our prayers and helps us out as well, only we are unaware.

The storyline is simple: The film revolves around Rajendra (Vinay Pathak), a simple man who is a salesman. But his dreams are sky-high. Being a Dhiru Bhai Ambani fan, he is very ambitious. He wants to achieve much in his life, but through ethical ways. His wife Suman (Divya Dutta) is a devout lady, who is always there to stand by his side, lending support.

But in reality, Rajendra’s attempts to make it big fail every time. Seeing his helplessness, Suman prays to God (played in human form by Sourabh Shukla), to help his husband. God takes the form of a lottery seller, a shady criminal, a mental hospital doctor and a cop. However, Rajendra is consumed with his own self so much that he ends up being oblivious to His presence and misses out on His help.

The comedy sequences are not intrinsic to the theme and one can’t make any head or tail out of it. With talents like Vinay Pathak, Saurabh Shukla, Divya Dutta, Harsh Chhaya, Gaurav Gera, Pubali Sanyal, one had expected a better work.

The filmmaking is woefully amateur and the product is below average. Vinay Pathak’s talent is being restricted to playing a bespectacled everyman; he should really go for new options. Divya Dutta’s acting looks forced. Music is weak, execution of the film bad and there is nothing to keep alive the audience’s interest.

Oh My God, one sorry cheer for this one!
