Lalbaug Ganapati temple goes tech-savvy
Mumbai, Aug 24: One of Mumbai`s most well known landmarks- the Lalbaug Ganapati temple - has turned tech-savvy with live webcasts of the `aarti`, electronic display screens at major stations in the city and mineral water fountains for thousands of devotees.

"We will be putting up screens at major places like Dadar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus where people can witness the `aartis` on way home. The `aartis` will also be webcast live on 12 websites. Many sponsors have also come forward to be a part of the festival," says Satish Kankar of the Lalbaug Ganesh Mandal, which organizes the Ganesh festival every year.

The `Lalbaugcha Raja` as the deity is popularly known in Mumbai is one of the oldest Sarvajanik Ganpati`s in the city, started in 1934.

Since then, the faith in this deity among people in the city and indeed all over Maharashtra has meant that every year lakhs of devotees wait patiently for hours on end to catch a glimpse of the 12 foot idol and offer their prayers during the ten day Ganesh festival.

This year we will even have mineral water fountains for devotees so that they should not be inconvenienced while waiting for darshan, says Kankar.
