Sonali Phogat, BJP leader and ex-Bigg Boss contestant, dies of heart attack in Goa

Sonali Phogat, who was also a popular TikTok star and participated in Bigg Boss Season 14, complained of uneasiness while she was at 'Curlies' restaurant in Anjuna, news agency PTI reported.

New Delhi: Sonali Phogat, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Haryana and an ex-Bigg Boss contestant, died due to a heart attack aged 42 in Goa, police said on Tuesday (August 23, 2022). Sonali Phogat, who was also a huge TikTok star, complained of uneasiness while she was at 'Curlies' restaurant in Anjuna from where she was taken to the hospital, Goa Director General of Police Jaspal Singh told news agency PTI. 

"There are no external injury marks on the body," Singh was quoted as saying by PTI. 

There is no foul play in the case, he said, and added that the postmortem report will reveal the exact cause of the death.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi said she was brought dead to the hospital.

"Prime facie, the cause of death is established as a heart attack but further medical examination is on," Dalvi was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, BJP leaders OP Dhankar and Kuldeep Bishnoi were among those who condoled Phogat's demise.

Hours before her untimely death, the actress-turned-politician had posted some of her pictures on her official social media accounts including Instagram and Facebook. 

Sonali Phogat contested Haryana assembly elections in 2019

Sonali Phogat had contested the assembly elections in Haryana in 2019 on a BJP ticket from the Adampur seat.

She, however, lost the election by over 29,000 votes against the then Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi.

Sonali Phogat was also part of Bigg Boss 14

Sonali Phogat, who was followed by over 19 lakh people on TikTok, had also participated in the reality TV show Bigg Boss 14.

Sonali Phogat started her career in 2006 

Sonali Phogat started her career in 2006 as an anchor on a Haryanvi show on Doordarshan. In 2016, she made her acting debut with the TV show 'Amma: Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma'.

She was also a part of the web series 'The Story Of Badmashgarh' in 2019.
