Punjab Election Result 2022: Congress’ Navjot Sidhu loses Amritsar East seat to AAP’s Jeevanjyot Kaur
After Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi faced defeat on both of his seats, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has lost from Amritsar East by a margin of 6,750 votes, according to the Election Commission.

New Delhi: After Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi faced defeat on both of his seats, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has lost from Amritsar East by a margin of 6,750 votes, according to the Election Commission.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is all set to form the next government in Punjab, has won the crucial Amritsar East seat. AAP’s Jeevan Jyot Kaur secured 39520 votes against Sidhu’s 32807 ballots. Kaur scripted a lead by winning 36.74 vote share, followed by Sidhu who bagged 30.49 vote share. While Shiromani Akali Dal's Bikram Singh Majithia was decimated in the Amritsar East seat by a margin of 14,408 votes.
Earlier today, accepting people’s mandate for Punjab, the state Congress chief tweeted, “The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!”
While Sidhu’s colleague and Congress’ CM candidate, Charanjit Singh Channi has lost both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats to AAP. Channi has been an MLA from Chamkaur Sahib for three terms since 2007. In Bhadaur, AAP's Labh Singh Ugoke defeated Channi, while in Chamkaur Sahib, Channi lost to Aam Aadmi Party's Charanjit Singh, with a margin of over 7000 seats.
Meanwhile, AAP CM candidate from Dhuri, Bhagwant Mann has won with a margin of 58,206 votes. Addressing a gathering in Sangrur, Mann said, “I will take oath as the CM in Bhagat Singh's village Khatkarkalan, not at the Raj Bhawan.”
“No government office will have CM's photos, there will be pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar,” he added.
As per latest update, AAP has won 45 seats in Punjab and is leading in 47, while Congress has bagged 4 seats and is ahead in 14. SAD has managed to win one seat so far and is ahead in 2 seats.
Counting to 117-member Punjab Assembly is underway amid tight security arrangements. Punjab had voted in a single phase on February 20.
