Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday criticised the Congress while replying to a two-day debate on the 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution. During the Lok Sabha speech, Modi said that at the time of the Emergency in 1975 under the Congress government, all the constitutional rights were snatched and the country was turned into a jail.
"The Constitution was torn apart when it was completing 25 years, in 1995, when the Emergency was imposed, all constitutional rights were snatched and the country was turned into a jail,” Modi said.
"It is 75 years of the Constitution. But 25 years also has an importance, so do 50 years and 60 years...When the country was witnessing 25 years of Constitution, at the same time Constitution in our country was razed. Emergency was imposed, democratic systems were finished," PM Modi added.
PM Modi added that out of the 75 years, the Congress ruled for 55 years and left no stone unturned in hurling a blow to the Constitution.
"One family of Congress left no stone unturned in hurling a blow to the Constitution. I am mentioning that one family because in 75 years of our journey, they ruled for 55 years. So, the country has the right to know what happened. The tradition of this family's ill-thoughts, bad policies is ongoing continuously. This family has challenged the Constitution at all levels," he alleged in Parliament today.
He further said that India is the mother of democracy and 75-year journey of the Constitution is a memorable journey of the world's largest and greatest democracy.
"The 75-year journey of India's Constitution is a memorable journey of the world's greatest and largest democracy. It symbolises the vision of our Constitution makers, their contributions, and our resolve to move forward. Completing 75 years is a moment to celebrate the significance of our Constitution and its provisions," PM Modi said, ANI reported.
