'Operation Dost': From Rescue Teams to Medicines and Dog Squads, Here's how India is Helping Earthquake-Hit Turkey

New Delhi: India has been helping Turkey and Syria in search and rescue operations after five powerful earthquakes jolted both countries. The death toll from earthquakes on Monday in Turkey and Syria crossed the 11,000 mark on Wednesday (February 8, 2023).

On the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has sent three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to quake-hit areas. India is sending search and rescue teams, a field hospital, materials, medicines, and equipment to Turkey and Syria under 'Operation Dost'.

Further, two Indian Air Force aircraft carrying a field hospital for a 30 bedded medical facility, along with medical specialists have also reached sent to Turkey.

Turkey, Syria earthquake: India's assistance to quack-hit areas

Over 6 tons of emergency relief assistance reached Syria and were received at the Damascus airport by the Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment Moutaz Douaji.

This emergency relief assistance included three truckloads of protective gear, emergency use medicines, ECG machines, and other medical items.

The NDRF teams have also reached Gaziantep, the epicenter of the earthquake in Turkey, and commenced search and rescue operations

The teams are also carrying some diesel, solar lanterns, and ready-to-eat meals, and are accompanied by specially trained dog squads.
