Bengal Panchayat Polls Results Live Update: TMC's Dominance Continues

The West Bengal State Election Commission informed that the TMC won 12,518 Gram panchayat seats and is leading in 3,620 seats. On the other hand, BJP has won 2,781 seats and is leading on 915 seats out of 63,229 seats as of 3.30pm. The Left Front has won in 959 seats out of which the CPI(M) alone has won in 910 seats and is curently leading in 550 seats. The Congress won 625 seats and is leading in 276. Newly formed ISF won 219 seats and led in 70 seats.

According to the latest State Election Commission disclosures, the TMC has won 12,518 gram panchayat seats and is leading in 3,620. As of 3.30pm, the BJP had gained 2,781 seats and was leading in 915 of the 63,229 seats.

As per the latest update, the TMC has won 8,232 seats and is leading on 2,712 seats. The BJP has won 1714 seats and is leading on 734 while Congress has won 362 seats with a lead on 215.

Counting for around 74,000 seats of the Bengal panchayat polls is underway in the state with the ruling TMC taking an invincible lead over opposition parties. There are around 339 counting venues spread across 22 districts. The maximum number of counting centers is in South 24 Parganas at 28, while the minimum is in Kalimpong at four. According to the state election commission, counting began at 8 am and is likely to continue for the next two days as it will take time for the ballots to be counted and the results to be compiled.

While there has been a war of words between the TMC and the BJP over the panchayat poll violence, an All India Trinamool Congress leader asserted that everyone should be ashamed of the death of political workers during the panchayat elections held two days ago, and appealed for an end to the culture of political violence. "As a Bengali, I hang my head in shame, and everybody else should also be ashamed that even in 2023, we could not stop this culture of violence....We should introspect why we cannot shun this culture. We don’t witness so much violence in any other place,” senior TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, a former police officer, said.

Bengal Panchayat Election Result 2023 Live Updates: BJP Fact-Finding Team To Visit State Today

BJP national president JP Nadda on Monday nominated a four-member fact-finding committee to visit the violence-hit areas of the state and send a report. The team will visit Kolkata today. The delegation includes former Union minister and party MP Ravishankar Prasad, (convenor), former Mumbai Police commissioner, Satyapal Singh, Rajdeep Roy, and Rekha Verma. "BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has nominated a four-member fact-finding committee to visit the violence-affected areas in West Bengal, where many people were killed in panchayat-related elections violence. The committee will submit its report to the Party National President at the earliest," read an official release by the party on Monday.

In West Bengal, repolling was held at 696 booths yesterday. During the repolling, a clip went viral on social media where a woman was purportedly seen helping another cast her vote as she stood with her through the entire process in the voting cubicle. The viral clip was from a polling booth at Jummagachh in Jalpaiguri district, where repolling was conducted following allegations of violence, booth capturing, intimidation and use of arms during the previous polling day -- July 8. Repolling was held in a total of 697 booths across five districts -- Purulia, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri, Nadia and South 24 Parganas.

The State Election Commission has issued a notice for counting of the ballot papers. The notification came after widespread rigging was reported during the West Bengal panchayat polls. The counting of votes for the high-stake West Bengal panchayat election will begin today at 8 am. The results will be a litmus test for Mamata Banerjee and BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The voting process concluded on Monday after the state election commission (SEC) mandated a re-polling at 696 booths across 19 districts due to reports of violence at multiple polling stations on the first day.

The stakes are high despite it being the panchayat or rural polls in West Bengal. The panchayat poll result will be a litmus test for both the parties - ruling TMC and opposition BJP. An increase in seat share of the BJP will indicate that the saffron party has managed to make inroads into the TMC bastions while a win for the TMC will further solidify Mamata Banerjee's position and control in the state. BJP will be happy even if it manages to increase its vote share ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections next year.

All counting centres will have a deployment of Central forces and CCTV cameras installed. Repolling took place at 696 booths across five districts of the state on Monday. The panchayat elections were held for 3,317 Gram Panchayats, 341 Panchayat Samitis and 20 Zila Parishads in West Bengal. Security forces from the Centre, as well as the state, were deployed on all 61,636 polling booths. The state Election Commission had set up a total of 61,636 polling booths across the state. A total of 59,000 personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and other State Armed Police (SAP) forces have been deployed at sensitive polling booths and the rest of the troops of CAPF and SAP along with local State Police were given the responsibility of security at the remaining polling booths.
