Venkaiah Naidu becomes new vice-president, secures 516 votes
The name of the next vice-president of India will be known by evening after members of Parliament cast their ballot during the day in Parliament House.

New Delhi: The members of the parliament on Saturday voted in a secret ballot to elect the 15th vice-president of India. A poll percentage of 98.21 was recorded when the voting ended. Out of the total 785 votes, 771 members of both the Houses have voted in the election.
The ruling NDA has fielded veteran BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu while the Opposition has fielded Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the election.

"It is a fight based on constitutional principles, where I maintained complete civility & same has been done from another side too," Gandhi asserted.
Talking to ANI, Opposition candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi said, "NDA's candidate is an experienced person, no competition as such between us."
Polling to elect the 14th Vice President of India began in Parliament with Prime Minister Narendra Modi casting his vote.
"I am known to all members of Parliament & they are known to me, that's why I'm not even campaigning. I have written a polite letter to everybody, their response is very good. I am confident that they all will support me," says Naidu ahead of polling.

Polling to begin shortly. With numbers favouring the NDA, Naidu is expected to become India’s 15th vice-president defeating Opposition’s Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
The term of incumbent Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who held the position for two consecutive terms, will come to an end on August 10.
According to the Election Commission officials, the voting will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. and will carry on till 5 p.m. The counting of votes will start at 7 p.m. and the result will be declared Saturday evening.
“This is the first time that such an opportunity has arisen since Independence. There is strong possibility that we will be able to give a lot to the country in the next five years,” PM Modi had said yesterday on the eve of the vice-presidential poll.
