 Several parts of Mumbai have been affected by waterlogging whereas in Karnataka, several areas are reeling under flood-like situation

Monsoon in India: Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday amid an 'orange' alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several parts of Mumbai have been affected by waterlogging, including the Andheri subway and Bhoiwada, leading to traffic snarls in the city. Meanwhile, down south, in Karnataka, rain lashed several parts of the state. Several incidents of landslides, school buildings and house collapses were reported from the coastal and north Karnataka region.  The Karnataka government is with the people at this hour of crisis when many parts of the state are reeling under floods, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said. In the National Capital Region, including Delhi, and Noida, rain on Tuesday morning brought down the mercury but caused traffic snarls and waterlogging in some areas.

3 Madhya Pradesh residents die, 3 missing as SUV gets washed away in Maharashtra due to heavy rains

Three people died and three are missing after their car was washed away due to the heavy flow of water in Nanda Gomukh of Saoner Tehsil. All passengers are residents of Madhya Pradesh, said Police inspector, Kelwad PS, Nagpur Rural. "Efforts are being made by the administration to trace the missing people and help from NDRF is also being taken. I'm in touch with Nagpur DC in this regard. Rs 4 lakhs will be provided to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives," Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis was quoted by ANI.

Three people are missing after their Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was swept away from a flooded bridge in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Tuesday, police said."The SUV with eight passengers was crossing a bridge that did not have railings on either side. The water flowing above the bridge swept away the vehicle. While two passengers swam to safety, we have recovered the bodies of three persons and three others are missing," the official said. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state government will give Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each deceased person.

Monsoon update: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial inspection of the rain-affected areas and visited Bodeli town in the Chhota Udepur district and Rajpipla in the Narmada district. After attending a review meeting, State Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi said 27,896 people have been relocated from flood-affected areas in the last few days, out of which 18,225 remain in shelters, while the others have returned home after the water receded. "In rain-related incidents, six more people lost their lives in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 69 since June 1 this year in Gujarat," he said.

Monsoon update: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan alerted District Collectors to be vigilant as IMD predicted heavy rain in the next two days during a video conference meeting on Tuesday. As a precautionary measure, the chief minister has released Rs 2 crore each to four districts - Eluru, Alluri Seetharama Raju, East Godavari, and Dr Ambedkar Konaseema - which are prone to floods and heavy rainfall. He also directed other collectors to feel free and send any requests to Chief Secretary and CMO, who are available round the clock.

Monsoon latest news: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the rain-hit Bodeli town in Chhota Udepur district and also conducted an aerial inspection of some flood-affected areas, his office said. While heavy rains continue to lash districts in south Gujarat since the last few days, parts of Kutch and Rajkot in the Saurashtra region also witnessed heavy showers since Monday night, officials said.

Monsoon updates: Gujarat continues to get heavy downpour

Gujarat rain: Heavy downpour continued in various parts of Gujarat on Tuesday and six people died in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours, raising the toll to 69 since June 1, officials said. A total of 27,896 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas and 18,225 of them remained in shelters while the others have returned home, state Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi said.

Maharashtra rain updates: 3 people dead, 95 evacuated from flooded places

Three persons died in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra over the past 24 hours and 95 people were evacuated from some of the flooded places, a disaster management department report said on Tuesday. Traffic on the Mumbai-Goa national highway was diverted last week following a landslide in the Parshuram Ghat section.

Maharashtra rain: Portion of house collapses in Thane

A portion of a house collapsed in Rabodi area of Maharashtra's city of Thane on Tuesday, and no one was injured in the incident, a civic official said. Local firemen and a team of the RDMC rushed to the spot and provided assistance, after a portion of the single-storey structure collapsed, Avinash Sawant, the chief of the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said. Occupants of the house were evacuated and shifted to a safer accommodation, he added.

Karnataka rain updates: CM Bommai assures help

Many parts of Karnataka are reeling under floods. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Tuesday that the Karnataka government is with the people at this hour of crisis. "I too am visiting the affected areas today and will issue necessary instructions for rescue and relief works," Bommai said. Efforts are on to convince the people residing in seismic sensitive zones and in areas which are prone to landslides to shift to safer places, he said.

The national weather forecasting agency, IMD had on Sunday predicted intense wet spells over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and coastal Karnataka from today onwards."A fresh intense wet spell likely over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka from 12th July, 2022," it said in a tweet.

The IMD has predicted that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, for the next 24 hours, in Mumbai and its suburbs, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated places and has forecast the maximum and minimum temperature of the city as 28 degrees Celcius and 24 degrees Celcius, respectively.
