NEW DELHI: A big bow to the cohesion of the INDI Alliance has occurred as the longstanding allies, the National Conference (NC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), declared their plans to run independently in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP leader, cited the National Conference's rigidity as the reason behind this decision, stating, "National Conference left us with no alternative but to enter the electoral fray.” Mufti also announced that the PDP would soon unveil its three candidates for Kashmir.
In reply, Omar Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference, delivered a firm caution, asserting that if the PDP persisted with their election campaign, it would essentially foreclose any potential for future alliances in assembly elections.
In the meantime, Farooq Abdullah, who has served as a parliamentarian for three terms, has chosen not to partake in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases beginning April 19. The elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held from April 19 to June 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
