Jharkhand Assembly election live: Voting ends in 18 seats amid violence

Voter turnout till 3 pm in the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly election is 59.27%, says Election Commission.

After clash between two rival camps, voting in booth no. 36 was suspended in Sisai assembly seat of Jharkhand. The police authorities are trying to maintain peace in the area. 

39.83 percent voting recorded till 1 pm in phase 2 of Jharkhand polls

The polling which started at 7 am will end at 3 pm. The voting, however, for the two Assembly seats, Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West, will conclude at 5 pm. 

Jharkhand witnesses brisk polling amid violence

Till 11 am Jharkhand witnessed 28.51 per cent voting. The highest voting has been recorded at Majhgao assembly seat with 36.73 per cent.

One person killed, six others including policemen injured in clashes and subsequent police firing outside polling booth in Jharkhand's Gumla district.

Two incidents of violence reported in Jharkhand on Saturday where polling for the second phase on 20 Assembly seats is underway.

A person was arrested in Ghatshila constituency for allegedly distributing money in favour of AJSU candidate.

Jailed Maoist commander Kunadan Pahan is also contesting from the Tamar Assembly seat.

Besides the Chief Minister, other major names contesting in the second phase include Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon, Urban Development Minister Neelkanth Singh Munda, Water Resources Minister Ramchandra Sahis, former cabinet minister Saryu Rai and state BJP president Laxman Giluwa.

The centre of attraction is the Jamshedpur East seat from where Chief Minister Raghubar Das is contesting against former cabinet colleague Saryu Rai and Congress spokesperson Gaurabh Vallabh.

The Assembly election is being held in Jharkhand in five phases. The dates of polling are -  November 30, December 7, December 12, December 16 and December 20. The results will be declared on December 23.
