New Delhi: BJP MLA Bhupendra Patel has been sworn-in as the chief minister of Gujarat on Monday (September 13, 2021) after the sudden exit of former CM Vijay Rupani ahead of the assembly elections in 2022. Ahead of swearing-in ceremony, Bhupendra Patel also met Vijay Rupani at the Chief Minister's residence in Gandhinagar. 

Bhupendra Patel replaced Vijay Rupani, who unexpectedly stepped down from the top post in the state. Union home minister Amit Shah and top BJP leaders also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. 

Additionally, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in seven districts, an orange alert in six districts and a yellow alert in eight districts in Odisha for the next 24 hours. The weather department also predicted that the national capital and adjoining areas will receive rainfall today. 

In other developments, the Bharatiya Janata Party's Priyanka Tibrewal will file her nomination papers for the by-election to the Bhabanipur seat today.

Pegasus snooping row: The Centre told the Supreme Court on Monday that it does not wish to file a detailed affidavit on a batch of petitions seeking independent probe into the alleged Pegasus snooping row, while the top court said it would pass an interim order on the issue.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, that if the government re-thinks about filing a detailed affidavit in the case, he can mention the matter before it. (PTI)

New Delhi: A team of Delhi Police out for patrolling duty saved the life of a 42-year-old man, who was allegedly trying to kill himself by jumping down from Andrews Ganj flyover on Sunday.

"On September 12, at about 06:00 pm, during patrolling in the area of the police station, information was received by Station house officer (SHO) Kotla Mubarak Pur regarding that one male person trying to jump from the Andrew Ganj flyover," said police.

India: Jet Airways will restart domestic operations by the first quarter of 2022 and short haul international flights by the last quarter of the next year, Jalan Kalrock Consortium, the winning bidder for the grounded airline, stated on Monday.

Goa: The Goa government has made five-day quarantine compulsory for people, specially students and those coming for work purposes from Kerala, in the wake of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the southern state, officials said.

In a notification issued on Sunday, the Goa administration also extended the ongoing statewide curfew till September 20, continuing ban on several activities, including casinos, in the coastal state.

Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh has added 20 new COVID-19 cases, raising the infection tally in the state to 10,04,864, a health official said. These new cases were recorded on Sunday, while no fresh death was reported, he said, adding that the fatality toll stood at 13,558.

As per the data, no new cases were found in 17 out of total 28 districts on Sunday. Six COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state on Sunday and 17 others completed their home isolation, which took the total number of recoveries to 9,90,930, the official said. (PTI)

Goa: Amid a spike in Covid cases in Kerala, the Goa government late on Sunday night imposed fresh restrictions on students and workforce from the Southern state who are visiting Goa.

According to the new list of restrictions, students and workers coming into Goa from Kerala, will be subject to institutional quarantine, which will be facilitated by managements of the educational institutions and offices or factories respectively. (IANS)
