New Delhi:  Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged that the central government neither cares about farmers nor the BJP workers killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3.

Amid power crisis, Union Power Minister RK Singh and Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi along with officials of Power and Coal Ministry met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. NTPC officials were also present in the meeting. 

PM Narendra Modi will attend 28th National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Foundation Day programme via video conferencing on Tuesday. 

Prime Minister Modi on Monday (October 11, 2021) virtually launched the Indian Space Association (ISpA) and interacted with representatives of the space industry on the occasion today.

“Our approach to Space reforms is based on four pillars -- freedom to private sector in innovation, role of Govt as an enabler, to make youth future-ready, & to see the Space sector as a resource for the progress of common man,” said PM Modi at the launch of Indian Space Association.

Additionally, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) that comprises Congress, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) called for a statewide bandh on Monday in protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident that claimed the lives of eight people including four farmers.

In other developments, the Indian Army on Monday issued a statement saying that the Chinese Army has not agreed to the constructive suggestions given by the Indian Army to resolve the remaining friction points or areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and that is why the 13th round of talks concluded without any results.

Uttarakhand Transport Minister Yashpal Arya and his son Sanjiv Arya on Monday resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Congress party in New Delhi. In a bid to ensure qualitative assistance in legal aid matters, the Supreme Court has issued directions asking the State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs) to send complete records of the cases in digital form as and when sought.

A bench of Justices Uday Umesh Lalit and S Ravindra Bhat passed the directions while dealing with a case in which amicus curiae was not provided with the record in a criminal matter including the depositions of witnesses by the Rajasthan SLSA.

Amid the ongoing state bandh in protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident that claimed the lives of eight people including four farmers, Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jayant Patil on Monday said that the people of Maharashtra are supporting the bandh called by the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Patil also alleged that BJP is `anti-farmer` and wants to crush them.

The Delhi government has to depend on costly gas-based power as well as spot purchase at high market rate as the NTPC has halved power supply to the city from the usual 4000 MW, Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday.

Most of the National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) plants are running at 55 percent capacity as their coal stocks are enough for one-two days, he claimed. Delhi purchases most of its power from NTPC but supply has been halved, Jain told reporters. "NTPC which supplies us 4000 MW power has reduced it to half currently. This has led us to generation of power through gas that costs Rs 17.25 per unit," he said.

A special court here Monday directed the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to file its reply on October 13 to a bail plea filed by Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, arrested in connection with the seizure of banned drugs on board a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.

Special Judge V V Patil, hearing matters related to the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, said it would hear the bail plea on Wednesday (October 13). Aryan Khan was arrested on October 3. He is currently in judicial custody and lodged at the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai. (PTI)

A wagon of an empty goods train derailed near Dahanu Road station in Maharashtra's Palghar district near here on Monday morning, a Western Railway official said. There was no casualty and train services on the route's main line were unaffected, he said.

The Dahanu Road station, about 120 km from here, is located on the Mumbai-Surat-Delhi trunk route and several long distance trains, including the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express, pass through the route daily.

Bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were closed in Mumbai on Monday after incidents of stone pelting at some places here in the wake of the Maharashtra bandh called by three ruling parties in the state to protest the killing of four farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district, officials said.

Nine buses, including one hired on lease, were damaged in areas like Dharavi, Mankhurd, Shivaji Nagar, Charkop, Oshiwara, Deonar and near Inorbit Mall here early morning, said a statement issued by BEST, which is the transport undertaking of the city civic body. "The BEST administration has called for police protection and buses will be operated from all depots after reviewing the situation," the statement said. (ANI)

Eighteen Samajwadi Party (SP) workers, most of them students, have been booked for an attempt to murder charge and 16 of them have been sent to jail after they allegedly attacked and injured a policeman who stopped them from burning the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Apart from section 307 (attempt to murder), the protesters were also booked under 15 more IPC sections, including rioting and unlawful gathering, despite prohibitory orders.

A gunfight has started between the terrorists and security forces in the Hajin area of Jammu and Kashmir`s Bandipora district, officials said on Monday. "Encounter has started at Gundjahangir, Hajin area of Bandipora. Police and Security Forces are on the job," police said.

The gunfight took place after a joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

During the meeting, the Indian side made constructive suggestions for resolving the remaining areas but the Chinese side was not agreeable and also could not provide any forward-looking proposals. "The meeting thus did not result in resolution of the remaining areas," the Army said, in its statement on the 13th round of corps commander level talks held in Moldo on the Chinese side of the LAC on Sunday.
