Delhi Breaking News LIVE Updates: With increasing Covid-19 scare in the country, Delhi government and other state governments are brainstorming over preventive measures which can be taken to curb the spread of virus. As a preventive measure, Ministry of Health declared that 2 percent of passengers travelling on international routes will be subjected to random sampling tests at the airport from today. Adhering to the guidelines, Mumbai International Airport, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport, and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport started the random sampling. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Amit Shah and other BJP leaders paid tributes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 98th birth anniversary, and said his contribution to India is indelible. Vajpayee led the BJP to power at the Centre in the 90s and remained India's prime minister for six years.

Further, President Droupadi Murmu visited Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi a day before Christmas and offered prayers for the welfare of humanity. PM Modi extends greeting to everyone too.

Delhi News LIVE Upates: Delhi authorities to ascertain readiness of govt hospitals on Monday, to increase Covid-19 testing

In view of a surge in Covid-19 cases in some countries, officials will physically visit all government hospitals in Delhi and ascertain their preparedness to deal with any eventuality, authorities said. In pursuance of the central government's directions, a mock drill will be conducted across all city government hospitals on Tuesday (December 27).

Delhi Health Secretary Amit Singla chaired a meeting with all district magistrates on earlier today and directed them to visit all hospitals and prepare an inventory of beds and equipment available there, a district official said.

"From Monday onwards, we are going to physically assess the situation at the government hospitals with regard to the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders, ventilators etc. These details will be available on a Delhi government portal for public viewing from Tuesday," another official said.

A man was allegedly injured in a stabbing incident after a scuffle broke out between two groups here in the national capital in Sangam Vihar area. The injured, identified as Gagandeep (22), is a resident of the same area. He was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.Police said they have recorded the victim`s statement and a case has been registered under sections 307/34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: National capital records min temp at 5.3 degrees Celsius

The minimum temperature settled at 5.3 degrees Celsius in the national capital on Christmas day (December 25), three notches below the season's average, the weather office at Safdarjung said. The relative humidity was 97 per cent and visibility at 600 metres at 8:30 am, it said.

It was a partly cloudy sky in the morning with moderate fog enveloping the city. Some places experienced cold wave conditions, according to the India Meteorological Department said. The temperature at the Ridge was three degrees Celsius while in Ayanagar, it was 3.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 20 degrees Celsius.

Delhi news: 110 international passengers tested at IGI airport yesterday

Following the recent `Guidelines for International Arrivals`, issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW),  110 international passengers were tested randomly on day 1 at the Delhi IGI. These guidelines were reinstated after Covid-19 resurfaced in some countries. Authorities are supposed to conduct random testing of two per cent international passengers (on the flight) at Airports.

A group of blind students from South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area set up a camp on one of the routes of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi on Saturday.

Around 15-20 blind students gathered on the route of Apollo hospital holding banners and chanting slogans 'Nafrat Chodo, Bharat Jodo' (forget hatred, unite India).

A blind student, Saransh, said they participated in the Yatra to 'protest against rising unemployment' in the country. He said there are several blind students who have excelled in education but remained unemployed for years.
