Cyclone Mandous LIVE Updates: IMD forecasts more rainfall till December 15, Schools in certain areas of Tamil Nadu to remain closed

Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu received rain on Monday with the IMD forecasting more rainfall till December 15 owing to a cyclonic circulation and low pressure area likely to form in the Bay of Bengal around December 13.

Schools in certain areas including in Tiruvallur and Uthukottai Taluks besides Kancheepuram district declared a holiday on Monday based on the forecast. 

Cyclone Mandous LIVE Updates: 3 people killed, over 21,000 affected due to adverse weather conditions

Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said on Monday (December 12) that three people were killed and over 21,000 have been affected by the adverse weather conditions caused by cyclone Mandous.

The DMC further said 19 people were injured and those affected belong to 6,113 families in 16 districts, adding that 5,639 houses in various parts of the island country have been damaged, Xinhua news agency reported.

Cyclone Mandous: 708 people were evacuated from unsafe low-lying areas and moved to safer areas

G Sai Prasad Special Chief Secretary (disaster management) said 708 people were evacuated from unsafe low-lying areas and moved to safer areas. He further said, 33 relief camps have been set up and 778 people have been rehabilitated, and 1,469 food packets and 2495 water packets have been distributed.
