The KVB Puram Mandal in Andhra Pradesh`s Tirupati district on Saturday recorded the highest rainfall at 258mm due to Tropical Cyclone Mandous currently active in the Bay of Bengal region, said official sources. As per sources, the way from KVB Puram Mandal, under the Satyavedu constituency, towards the Srikalahasti is completely blocked due to heavy water flow from nearby ponds and lakes. (ANI)

Cyclone Mandous: Severe storm uproots 400-500 trees, 300 vehicles deployed to ensure smooth traffic on main road

Around 400-500 trees were uprooted. "We were prepared for the cyclone and had cut the branches of 15000 trees to avoid accidents. 500 staff, 300 vehicles were deployed so main road was cleared and traffic was not disrupted," said Gagandeep Bedi, Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation.

On Friday Morning, a wooden ramp built for disabled at Chennai’s Marina beach was damaged by intense waves because of cyclone Mandous. The ramp was 263-metre-long, 3-metre-wide. It was constructed with a mix of several categories of wood, including Brazilian wood, at a cost of Rs 1.14 crore, according to officials.

Cyclone Mandous Live updates: ISRO shares images of severe cyclonic storm

ISRO on Thursday shared the image of severe cyclonic storm Mandous which is set to cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a windspeed of 65-75 kmph today around midnight.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday morning predicted that the severe cyclonic storm Mandous will move west-northwest and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a windspeed of 65-75 kmph around midnight of December 9.

"The severe cyclonic storm Mandous over Southwest Bay of Bengal about 270km East-southeast of Karaikal. IMD forecst heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu as cyclonic storm 'Mandous' over Bay of Bengal intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Dec 9 at midnight. The Tamil Nadu government said 12 teams -- comprising nearly 400 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and the State force -- have been deployed in 10 districts including Nagapattinam and Thanjavur in the Cauvery delta region, Chennai, its three neighbouring districts and Cuddalore.

All the schools and colleges will be closed on Friday in Puducherry and Karaikal in view of cyclone Mandous, said Education Minister A Namassivayam. As the `Mandous Cyclone` is likely to become severe and gather more intensity by Friday morning, the Greater Chennai Corporation issued precautionary measures and ordered to close all parks and playgrounds till further notice. The Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner had a discussion with officials regarding precautionary measures to be taken in view Mandous Cyclone. Chennai Corporation also asked people not to visit beaches and also asked them to park cars in open areas and not under trees.

Cyclone Mandous Live updates: Red alert for three districts in Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for three districts of Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Mandous was inching closer to the state. Red alert has been issued for Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu.

An orange alert was issued for Cuddalore, Myladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Pudukottai districts for Thursday.

The IMD had issued an alert that the state would receive heavy rainfall on December 9 and 10t due to this weather phenomenon. The deep depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal was likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm and reach the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh coasts.

Adhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday directed the collectors of various districts to be vigilant in view of the cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal. The Chief Minister reviewed the cyclone situation in Bay of Bengal at a meeting here. He said that adequate precautions should be taken by the authorities reviewing the impact of the storm from time to time. (PTI)
