Since 1971, there have been ten other years when the monsoon onset in Kerala occurred on or after June 8. Among those years, the monsoon arrived exactly on June 8 only in 2019. In 1996 and 2002, the onset over Kerala was on June 9. In 1995, it arrived on June 10. The monsoon onset dates for June 12 were recorded in 1979, 1983, 1986, and 1997. On June 13, the monsoon arrived in 2003, while in 1972, it arrived relatively later, on June 19.

Cyclone Biparjoy Live: Wind Speed

The cyclone currently has a windspeed between 135-145 kmph. Atmospheric conditions and cloud mass indicate that the system is likely to sustain the strength of a very severe cyclone till June 12.

Cyclone Biparjoy Latest: Delay In Monsoon 

The formation of cyclonic storm Biparjoy may cause further delay in monsoon onset by two-three days, said private forecaster Skymet. The Biparjoy is anticipated to move nearly northwards during the next 24 hours and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm.
