Covid-19 LIVE Updates: Now Haryana government offers free booster doses for all adults

After Delhi, now Haryana government announced that it will give free Covid-19 booster doses to over 300 crore adults. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced free booster doses for adult citizens in the age group of 18 to 59 years. 

The Mathura district administration on Monday directed temple authorities to ensure that devotees follow COVID-19 guidelines in the wake of rising cases in the neighbouring districts. A large number of devotees are coming to Mathura every day from the Delhi-NCR region. Their numbers reach thousands, especially during weekends, District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said. (PTI)

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 12,87,998 on Monday as nine more people tested positive for the infection, the same as the previous day, a health bulletin said. The death toll remained unchanged at 9,124 as no fresh fatality was recorded for the fifth consecutive day. The state now has 84 active cases, while 12,78,737 people have recovered from the disease so far, including eight in the last 24 hours. (PTI)

People hospitalised during the pandemic both for Covid and other conditions have a higher rate of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections compared to patients hospitalised before the pandemic, according to a study. An estimated 1.2 million people worldwide died in 2019 from antibiotic-resistant infections, and this number is predicted to increase ten-fold by 2050.

There have been studies reporting that the pandemic was associated with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) secondary infections, possibly due to the increase in the use of antibiotics to treat Covid-19 patients and disruptions to infection prevention and control practices in overwhelmed health systems. Pointing out that the state is lagging behind some others in terms of people vaccinated against Covid-19 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday said there was a challenge to be faced.

Addressing the District Collectors through video conference, Stalin said there are 1.48 crore people who have not taken the second Covid-19 dose and 11.68 lakh people who have not taken the booster dose. Stalin said vaccinating them in the coming two weeks is the challenge to be faced. (IANS)

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in some states of the country, the Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department has asked schools to suspend morning assembly, cultural programmes and sports activities, officials said on Monday. The School Education and Literacy department has issued a fresh COVID-19 guideline for schools in Jharkhand in the light of rising COVID-19 cases in some states.

Ahead of the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will hold a meeting to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the state on Monday at 12.30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Chief Minister`s home office, Krishna. Bommai will meet ministers of his Cabinet, Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) chairman Sudarshan and other TAC members. 

More than 192.74 crore COVID vaccine doses have been provided to States and Union Territories till date, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. "More than 192.74 crore (1,92,74,20,735) vaccine doses have been provided to States, UTs so far through Government of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category," a statement from the Health Ministry said. 

India`s recovery rate from COVID-19 is currently at 98.75 per cent. Furthermore, the government data said that 83.50 crore total COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far of which 3,02,115 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. In these figures, a daily positivity rate of 0.84 per cent was observed in the country whereas the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.54 per cent. (ANI)

Beijing on Monday began mass COVID-19 testing of over 3.5 million people in one of the city's high-profile districts following a spike in cases, while Shanghai reported a record 51 deaths in a day as the eastern metropolis continued to grapple with the Omicron variant for the fourth week.

Beijing's local government has ordered Chaoyang district, home to some 3.5 million residents, to have three rounds of mass nucleic acid testing starting from Monday after the district registered the most COVID-19 cases in the capital's latest epidemic surge, official media reported. (PTI)

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 509.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.21 million and vaccinations to over 11.23 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world`s highest number of cases and deaths at 80,984,914 and 991,254, respectively, according to the CSSE. India accounts for the second highest caseload at 43,057,545.

Mainland China reported 2,666 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 51 more deaths in the past 24 hours, the country`s National Health Commission said on Monday. Of the new local cases, 2,472 infections were reported in Shanghai while the rest of the cases were reported in 17 other provincial-level regions on the mainland including 79 in Jilin, 26 in Heilongjiang, and 14 in Beijing, Xinhua reported citing the commission.

Telangana on Sunday recorded 21 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 7,91,793 so far. Hyderabad reported the highest number of cases with 17.

A bulletin said no fresh fatalities occurred due to the infectious disease and the toll continued to be 4,111. Nineteen people recuperated from the infection and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,87,469. The recovery rate stood at 99.45 per cent.

Chhattisgarh on Sunday reported two fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the state's tally to 11,52,235, an official said. The death toll remained unchanged at 14,034 as no fresh fatality was reported due to the infection during the day.

The state's COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 0.20 per cent, he said. The recovery count in Chhattisgarh also remained unchanged at 11,38,183 as none of the people were discharged or completed their home isolation during the day, leaving the state with 18 active cases, he said.

Mumbai reported 73 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, said the health bulletin by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on Sunday. With this, the active caseload in the city stands at 521.

As many as 55 COVID patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries in the city since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,039,203. The recovery rate in the financial capital is 98 per cent. (ANI)

Punjab reported 21 fresh Covid cases that took the infection tally to 7,59,422, according to a medical bulletin issued here on Sunday. No Covid-related fatality was reported in the past 24-hours. The death toll stands at 17,744, according to the bulletin. Punjab has recorded 329 new Covid cases and two deaths in April so far, it said. The number of active cases in the state stands at 165, the bulletin said.

West Bengal on Sunday reported 41 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 20,18,012, the Health Department said. The toll remained at 21,201 as no new deaths were reported, it said. In the last 24 hours, 32 patients recovered, taking the total recoveries to 19,96,556.

Tamil Nadu reported 52 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, said the health bulletin by the state Health Department on Sunday. With this, the active cases in the last 24 hours stand at 334 which stood at 310 on Saturday. As many as 28 COVID patients recovered from the infection during this period.

Singapore reported 2,044 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total tally to 1,182,168. Of the new cases reported on Sunday, 259 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 1,785 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

The prestigious La Martiniere Girls` College in Lucknow has been shut for two days after two students tested positive for Covid-19. The students are of classes 2 and 6 and are siblings. Parents of the students informed the school principal Ashrita Dass about their children testing Covid-positive on Sunday.

"We have closed the school for two days. No online or offline class of any standard will be held for two days. We are requesting the Lucknow Municipal Corporation for complete sanitisation of the campus," Dass said.
