Muzaffarnagar: Samajwadi Party workers, including its youth wing vice president Gaurav Jain and district media in-charge Sajid Hasan, were booked for violation of prohibitory orders in Civil Lines area here, police said on Saturday. They demonstrated and burned an effigy representing the Uttar Pradesh government in protest against the death of a Dalit woman from Hathras on Friday evening, SHO D K Tyagi said. (PTI inputs)

Varanasi: Congress and Samajwadi Party workers protested against the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras, raising anti-government slogans before Union Minister Smriti Irani in Varanasi. Congress workers raised the slogans and tried to block Irani's cavalcade demanding justice for the woman's family. Speaking in Lucknow, Congress spokesman Lalan Kumar said the protesting party workers were later arrested.

Hathras gang-rape victim's family said that they could not give a final farewell to the daughter due to the alleged forcible cremation of the 19-year-old girl. The family alleged that their house was under police siege for three days.

The victim's family said that the deceased's brother has collected the ashes on Saturday and will perform the rituals as per the Hindu tradition. A Delhi-based NGO worker Yogita helped the family collect the victim's ashes from the crematorium ground where the girl's body was forcibly cremated by the Uttar Pradesh Police without the family's consent.

The Atal tunnel is horseshoe-shaped, single tube double lane tunnel with a roadway of 8 metres and an overhead clearance of 5.525 metres.

The Atal Tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in the world, it is 9.02 km long and connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley throughout the year.

The Atal Tunnel will reduce the road distance between Manali and Leh by by 46 Kms and cut down the travel time by about 4 to 5 hours.

The 9.02km long tunnel has been built with ultra-modern specifications in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas at an altitude of 3,000 metres from the mean sea level.
