Groom, eight others killed after car enroute Ujjain falls into Chambal river in Rajasthan’s Kota

New Delhi: At least nine people were killed in Rajasthan’s Kota on Sunday (February 20, 2022) after the car they were riding fell into the Chambal river. The group, which included a groom, was heading to Ujjain for the wedding. 

“The marriage procession was going to Ujjain, the bus went ahead and the car lost its way. It came on Chhoti Puliya where it went out of control and fell into the river. Seven dead bodies were recovered from the car and two were recovered from the river in rescue operations,” said Kesar Singh Shekhawat, SP City, Kota.

The local police and district administration, after getting information about the incident, started relief and rescue operations. The bodies have been sent to the hospital for post-mortem. The authorities said that the car was pulled out with the help of a crane. 

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family.

"The death of nine people including the groom after the car of the wedding procession in Kota fell into the Chambal river is very sad and unfortunate. After talking to the collector, got information about the whole incident. My deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family, may God give them strength to bear this loss, may the soul of the departed rest in peace," tweeted Gehlot.
