Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh loses from Patiala

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, who was unceremoniously removed from the post of the state’s Chief Minister, has lost from the Patiala Assembly constituency. Amarinder Singh came a distant second garnering just 22868 votes (28.21%). Ajit Pal Singh Kohli of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged victorious from this seat with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Harpal Juneja being the runner-up. He got 39852 (45.16%) votes.

Captain Amarinder Singh had floated the Punjab Lok Congress Party after he was forced to quit the chief ministerial post. Apart from Captain Amarinder, many other political heavyweights of the state, including Amarinder Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu, current Chief Minister and Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi, SAD leader Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal, all are trailing in their respective constituencies.

AAP has comfortably crossed the majority mark, and is currently leading at 90 out of total 117 Assembly seats in the state. The magic figure in Punjab is 59. 

“We're 'aam aadmi' but when 'Aam Aadmi' rises mightiest of thrones shake. Today's an imp day in India's history,not only because AAP is winning one more state but because it has become a national force. AAP will become Congress' replacement,” AAP’s Punjab co-in charge Raghav Chadha tweeted.
