DUSU elections 2018 live updates: Amid uproar, counting of votes resumes
The counting of votes for the DUSU polls was suspended after six EVMs were reported of malfunctioning.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls ended on Wednesday with 44.46% voters turning up on election day however the counting of votes was suspened after six EVMs were reported of malfunctioning.
NSUI claims that they have been winning the six rounds and the union had even started celebrating for Sunny Chillar's win. ABVP was, however, reported to be leading the Secretary post.
The results were to be announced on Thursday where the main student unions - BJP backed-Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Congress backed-National Students' Union of India (NSUI) were against each other. While the AAP backed-Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) contested the polls in alliance with left-wing students' outfit All India Students Association (AISA) this year.
This year, polling took place in around 52 centers in the colleges. There has been an increase in the voter turnout percentage as last year the University saw 43% turnout.

# Counting for the student union polls which was stopped midway due to "faulty EVMs" and the "students' uproar over it" has resumed. "After elaborate discussions, it was decided that the counting will be resumed today. All candidates have reached an agreement on this," an election officer for DUSU polls said.
# Counting had to be stopped over allegations of faulty EVMs. However, following objections by students, the election officials had decided to suspend the counting.

# The NSUI has promised the 'Institute of Eminence' tag for Delhi University and thalis at Rs 10 in canteens.
# The ABVP has promised to spend 50 percent of the union's budget on women and social justice-related activities, along with a special attention on promoting sports and installing sanitary pad vending machines in college campuses.
# CYSS has promised installation of CCTV cameras, setting up of police booths in the campus, ending the "culture of hooliganism" and opposition to "commercialisation of education".

# Heavy police force was deployed in the area, with around 700 personnel stationed in the north campus and over 500 personnel deployed in the south campus.
# A person wearing a question mark sign was detained by police outside the Ramjas College, but after it was found he had a college ID card, he was let off.
# Some members of parties, who were seen canvassing for votes, were warned by the police personnel.
