INLD leader Nafe Singh Rathee and a party worker Jai Kishan were shot dead by unidentified assailants, who opened fire at their vehicle in Bahadurgarh on February 24.

The assailants told Rathee's nephew, who was driving the vehicle, that they were sparing his life so that he could inform his family, according to an FIR registered by the Haryana Police. The FIR named former MLA Naresh Kaushik, Karambir Rathee, Ramesh Rathee, Satish Rathee, Gaurav Rathee, Rahul and Kamal as the accused in the case. among five other unnamed accused.

United Kingdom-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu, has claimed responsibility for the killing of Nafe Singh Rathee. Sangwan announced on Instagram that Rathee was killed due to his close friendship with Sangwan’s rival, gangster Manjeet Mahal. The post, which is being verified by Haryana Police, carried a picture of Rathee shaking hands with Mahal.

According to a Delhi Police officer, Sangwan and Mahal – both residents of Najafgarh – have been part of a feud since 2015 when Mahal and his men allegedly killed Sangwan’s brother-in-law Sunil alias ‘Doctor’.

In 2017, Sangwan took revenge by gunning down Mahal’s father Shri Krishna in his house in Nazafgarh.
