4 College Students Dead, 60 Injured In Stampede During Music Concert In Kerala

New Delhi: A stampede-like situation occurred at a music concert at University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) University, Kochi. Kerala Health Minister Veena George reported that four students lost their lives, and nearly 60 sustained injuries in this unfortunate incident. The tragic event transpired during a music concert by Nikhita Gandhi, conducted in the university's open-air auditorium. The Health Minister added that arrangements have been made at Kalamassery Medical College to address the situation.
CUSAT University Vice Chancellor, Dr Sankaran told the media that two of the injured students are in critical condition. The concert was part of the tech fest, drawing a crowd of over 2000 attendees. Due to the rainy conditions in the area, some students slipped on the staircase, leading to a stampede-like situation."

Taking to ANI, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith Kumar said, "Guests were requested to wear black t-shirts to the event. Unexpected rainfall led those present at the venue to seek shelter. Consequently, individuals on the steps slipped, and others inadvertently walked over them."

"Tragically, four individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while an additional four sustained serious injuries. In addition to these casualties, a total of 46 individuals have reported injuries at the medical college," ADGP added.
