Bharat Bandh: Curfew continues in Rajasthan's Hindaun; flag march by police in MP's Gwalior

Hindaun: Curfew continued in Rajasthan's Hindaun city on Wednesday in wake of the violence across the state on April 3 during 'Bharat Bandh' by several pro-Dalit outfits against the alleged dilution of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by the Supreme Court.

According to ANI, the situation was returning to normal in most-affected areas of Rajasthan. However, the authorities suspended internet services as a precautionary measure.

The situation flared up in Hindaun city on April 3 after the houses of local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Rajkumari and former Congress MLA Bharosi Lal Jatav were set ablaze by protesters in favour of the 'Bharat Bandh'.

Some women travelling onboard a bus were also allegedly molested by a group of protesters.

Local police battalions including Border Security Force, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and Special Task Force have been deployed in the city to maintain law and order.

The state government authorities on Wednesday suspended arms licenses in some of the areas of Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district in the wake of violence during Bharat Bandh by pro-Dalit outfits. 

The order was also implemented in cities like Mehgaon, Gohad and Machhand of Bhind district. In two separate incidents, protesters torched a shop outside the municipal office and set a tyre on fire in Bhind during curfew.

Meanwhile, the curfew remained clamped in various areas of Gwalior, Bhind and Morena districts today. However, it was relaxed for two hours between 10 am and 12 noon.

The Madhya Pradesh Police on Wednesday conducted a flag march in Gwalior city after which Dr Ashish Kumar, City SP said that 'the situation is normal and internet services have been restored.'

During Bharat Bandh, Madhya Pradesh Minister Lal Singh Arya's residence in Bhind district was targeted by the protesters during their agitation, however, police foiled the attempt.

The death toll in Madhya Pradesh due to violent protests during the nationwide bandh called by several Dalit organisations reached seven after one more person succumbed to injuries on Tuesday.

Protests across the country turned violent on Monday after protesters resorted to stone pelting, damaging public properties and rail and various other blockades.Violent protests were reported from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, and Punjab.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay its order on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
