Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, in his Republic Day message, referred to the Delhi Assembly elections and pointed out that attempts have been made at a global level to influence elections through social media and media.
"The key to success for democracy lies in good governance...Democracy is the most important fundamental principle of the Constitution. Constitution gives us the freedom to elect government through our votes and decide who we give the power to. For Delhi, this Republic Day is of special importance. A few days from today, we will elect our new government," LG VK Saxena while extending his Republic Day wishes.
"We will have to remember that we will not only elect a government but we will also choose a system that will impact every aspect of our lives for the next 5 years...For the past few years we have seen that on a global level, attempts have been made to influence elections through social media and media. As a citizen and voter, we should strive to discern between what is right and what is wrong without succumbing to any pressure...," he further said.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and failed to win any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of a total of 70 seats, while BJP secured only three and eight seats in these elections.
