AAP Punjab MLA Gurpreet Gogi Dies In Mysterious ‘Accidental Shooting’ At Ludhiana Residence

Gurpreet Gogi Bassi, 58, Aam Aadami Party (AAP) MLA from Ludhiana West constituency in Punjab was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence late on Friday night with gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The incident occurred around midnight. Gogi was rushed to the DMC Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“The incident happened around midnight, and he was declared dead when he was brought to the DMC hospital,” ANI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja as saying.
According to the police, preliminary information suggests that Gogi’s licensed pistol accidentally fired while it was being cleaned. The autopsy report will determine whether MLA Bassi's death was a result of suicide or an accidental firing.
The police have launched an investigation into the case. “Investigation is underway,” the DCP added.
Singh Teja further told IANS, "As per the family, he shot himself accidentally and sustained bullet injuries to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital. His body has been kept at the mortuary in DMC hospital," Teja said.
The DCP added that the exact cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem report is received. "Cause of death will be clear once the post-mortem reports come," he further added.
The incident took place around midnight. Gogi was brought to DMC hospital but was declared dead on arrival. District AAP President Sharanpal Singh Makkar and Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed his death.

Gogi joined AAP in 2022 and won the Ludhiana Assembly elections, defeating former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu. His wife, Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, contested the Municipal Corporation elections but lost to Congress candidate Inderjit Singh Indi.
Earlier in August 2024, Gogi had destroyed the foundation stone of a pipeline project in Buddha Nullah due to delays in its completion. The Speaker had promised action following Gogi’s concerns.
On the day of his death, Gogi visited Prachin Sheetla Mata Mandir and assured devotees that he would act against burglars who stole silver from the temple two days earlier.
