The Crime Branch of Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday recovered 650 kilogram of explosives in Banda district. The ammonium nitrate was packed in 13 sacks and it was recovered by police during a routine checking of vehicles.
It is to be noted that ammonium nitrate is used to make explosives. The explosive was recovered in Civil Line area of Banda. During the checking, the police personnel had asked a white Scorpio SUV bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration to stop but the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the checking point. The police then chased the Scorpio and when the driver failed to dodge the police he ran away from the spot leaving behind the vehicle. Police sources said that it is likely that the ammonium nitrate seized from the vehicle was meant to cause blasts in neaby Mahoba hills.
