Imagine being able to have a baby through three-parent DNA technique, stitch tissues without help from human surgeons, remove tumour from the fetus and then pull it back to the mother's womb – all thanks to the amazing people we know as doctors!

Out of the several miraculous medical feats achieved in the year 2016, here's a list of breakthroughs and discoveries that give promising solutions to help solve some of the most challenging health issues:

Miracle baby girl 'born' twice in America!

For the first time in the world, a baby girl named ‘LynLee’ was born twice in America.

Baby’s mother, Margaret was only 16-weeks pregnant, when a customary ultrasound showed her that Lynlee had a tumour growing on her tailbone - a medical condition called Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT).

As per doctor, the only way out was removal of the tumour through surgery, which required the baby to be pulled out of the mother's womb prematurely.

Margaret's baby was pulled out of the womb for 20 minutes for the surgical process. And after the successful surgery, the baby was put back inside Margaret's womb for another 12 weeks.

LynLee was finally born again on June 6, 2016 at 36 weeks and five days. But, she had to undergo another surgery eight days after her birth for the removal of the remaining parts of the tumour.

Robot surgeon stitches tissue by itself

Scientists have created a new type of robot that is capable of stitching up tissue in living animals without a real doctor pulling the strings.

Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot (STAR) can perform complex surgery as well, and in some cases better than human surgeons albeit under close supervision.

Successful surgery on Bangladesh's 'Tree Man'

A 26-year-old Bangladeshi father, dubbed as 'Tree Man' due to massive barb-like warts growing on his hands and feet, underwent a successful surgery this year.

The warts were identified as epidermodysplasia verruciformis, an extremely rare, non-contagious disease.

A team of nine doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital took three-and-a-half hours for the surgery to remove the growths.

World's first 3-parent baby!

For the first time in the world, a baby was born using DNA from the three parents in the embryo, thanks to a controversial new technique employed by US.

The baby boy was born in Mexico to Jordanian parents

First double hand transplant in US

An eight-year-old American became the world`s youngest recipient of a transplant of both hands in Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia, US.

Surgeons operated on the boy for about 10 hours to carry out the incredibly complicated surgery on Baltimore native Zion Harvey.

He previously had both his hands and feet amputated and had a kidney transplant following a major infection.

And the smiling, precocious youngster had learned to eat, write and even play video games without hands.
