New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a team of doctors in Central America have successfully removed the world's largest ever uterine tumour from a 40-year-old woman's body.
The woman from Guatemala had a tumour weighing an incredible 70lbs (32kg) growing in her uterus for seven long years, as per a report in Daily Mail.
She was diagnosed with Leiomyoma also known as fibroids, which is a non-cancerous growth in the uterus that can develop during a woman's childbearing years.
According to the report, the patient went to hospital with the huge abdominal mass - which made her look pregnant with multiple babies - and gave her stomach a staggering circumference of 137cm.
She was diagnosed with the problem seven years ago, but she refused the treatment due to personal and cultural background. Reportedly, the 40-year-old woman made a full recovery and was discharged on the sixth-day post operation.
According to the Guinness World Records, the heaviest fibroid recorded weighed 66 lb 2 oz (30 kg). It belonged to Mrs Mahadevamma which was removed by a surgical team led by Dr Pushpanjali Malipatil at the Rajiv Gandhi Superspeciality Hospital in Raichur, Karnataka, India in December 2005.
