Childhood Cancer Awareness month: This mom's heart-rending 'back-to-school' photo will break your heart! (Pic inside)

New Delhi: This mom surely has a big heart even when her world has been shaken to the core.

 

Mom Julie Apicella posted a back-to-school photo of her daughter Emily Apicella alongside a picture of the same background – but without the little girl in the image.

Julie, who lost her daughter to a rare form of kidney cancer last December, shared this side-by-side split photo on Facebook, which has gone viral breaking the hearts of netizens, in an attempt to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

“Imagine if your school photo this year is the LAST you will ever be able to take and will just be a memory to remember,” Julie wrote on Facebook.

Apicella said that she has asked her friends and family to change their profile pics to go gold, the color used for childhood cancer awareness, which many have done that.

Her post has been shared more than 10,000 times.

 

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, a time to honor and remember children and families affected by these rare diseases. It is a time to commit to raising childhood cancer awareness all year.

According to cancer.org, more than 10,000 children under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in the US this year and about 1,250 are expected to die.
