Goa polls: Sixty nominees file nomination papers

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was among 60 candidates who filed their nomination papers for next month's Assembly Elections for various constituencies.
As per the records available with Chief Electoral Office here, 17 sitting MLAs were amongst the candidates who submitted their documents for the February 4 elections for the 40-member House.
Of the 60 nominations, 21 are from BJP, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (7), Congress (6), Aam Aadmi Party (11), Goa Forward (3), Communist Party (2), United Goans Party (1) and rest from smaller outfits and Independents.
With this, the total number of candidates who have filed nominations reached 70. The last date for filing the nomination papers is January 18.
"The scrutiny of the applications would be done on January 19," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti told reporters today.
