New Delhi: Who said gorillas aren't hygienic? Louis – a male gorilla in a Philadephia zoo was spotted walking on two legs like a human does because he is apparently a clean freak!

The 18-year-old ape walks upright when he has food in his hands to keep both his hands and the food clean, instead of leaning forward on his knuckles.

The video which shows Louis running away with his snacks in his hand is quite amusing. Check it out below:

According to the Associated Press, Michael Stern, curator of primates and small mammals, says workers had to install a fire hose over a mud puddle in the yard. The nearly 500-pound, 6-foot-tall primate crosses it like a tightrope to avoid getting dirty.

Stern says it’s 'pretty unusual' for gorillas to walk around upright. In the wild, Western lowland gorillas like Louis might do it for a few seconds to reach food or wade into swamps.
