New Delhi: In a rare case, a 11-foot-long Burmese python consumed an entire deer that weighs more than the snake itself.
It is said that the reptile weighed around 14 kg while its prey weighed an astounding 16 kg.
According to reports, the python was found by biologists at Collier-Seminole State Park in Florida on April 7, 2015, after it had consumed a large animal and it vomited the deer when they moved it to an open area. The fawn suffered fractures in its ribs and vertebrae.
Though pythons have devoured big animals in the past, this is believed to be the largest predator/prey ratio ever documented for the Burmese python, and possibly for any snake species.
Pythons are one of the most venomous creatures on the planet and are known for devouring young prey. The Burmese python is considered among one of the five largest species of snakes in the world.
The incident has been documented by wildlife biologists at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida Science Department and will be published in the March 2018 issue of Herpetological Review.
