Biologists name new lizard species after Maharashtra scientist
This new species, Cyrtodactylus Varadgirii, has been named after a herpetology expert from Kolhapur named Varad Giri.

New Delhi: Biologists from the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru along with Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai discovered new lizard species of the genus Cyrtodactylus belonging to the subgenus Geckoella, which are commonly known as geckos.
This new species, Cyrtodactylus Varadgirii, has been named after a herpetology expert from Kolhapur named Varad Giri.
The authorities named the species after the scientist in recognition of his immense contribution to Indian Herpetology.
As per a report published in Times of India, the last such gecko was discovered over 130 years ago.
