Mumbai: One question that keeps haunting unmarried Indians is – ‘When are you getting married?’. This is something that makes singles who aren’t yet ready to take the marital plunge, go really crazy!

Your parents, family and friends may tell that you are old enough to get married but do not give in to pressure. Else you would end up ruining not just your life, but someone else’s too.

Marriage is a highly respected institution and it’s a commitment for a lifetime. This togetherness with another individual has its own share of pluses and minuses. And hence it is important to ask yourself if you are truly game.

In this post, we will take you through the reasons why you mustn’t exchange marital vows until you are voluntarily ready and mentally prepared for it:

Commitment Phobia- As long as you have this phobia, you wouldn’t be able to do justice to the relationship. First overcome your fear and then decide when to get married.
Time to get mentally prepared – Even if you aren’t commitment phobic, you may feel the need to prepare yourself mentally for marriage. You may think that post marriage you will lose the freedom a bachelor/spinster usually enjoys. So first prepare yourself mentally to share your life with another individual.
To genuinely develop a liking for someone - In case of an arranged marriage, it is likely that the bride and the groom may know nothing about each other. On meeting the prospective groom or bride, if you don’t feel an inclination for the person from the bottom of your heart, do not proceed any further. Love blossoms from within so it can’t be forced.
Check if you are financially sound – If you think you are not financially equipped to support another individual then wait until you are sound enough to undertake the responsibility of marriage.
Be completely sure about your feelings for that ‘someone special’ – If you like someone but aren’t completely sure if he/she is the right one for you then wait until your heart gives you the answer. Impromptu decisions don’t work when it comes to marriages. And remember, the feeling has to be mutual.
