The film is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat to trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in wrestling. Geeta is country's first female wrestler to win a gold in 55 kg at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Her sister Babita Kumari won the silver in 51 kg.

For this titular character, Aamir not only did extensive research but also transformed his body completely. His body weight had to match that of the wrestler Phogat and for that the Bollywood superstar did what all he could. The result is magical.
Aamir not only gained piles of kilos but also got rid of them in few months. The hard work and dedication that went behind achieving the 'Dangal' character has been captured in a video shared by UTV on Twitter.
'Dangal' is releasing on December 23, 2016. The film stars television's popular face Sakshi Tanwar as Aamir's wife.
