Delhi: Pop music superstar Prince (Prince Rogers Nelson) passed away at 57 on Thursday in Minnesota.
Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound, as per reports.
Reports further said that he was hospitalised last week after his plane for was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline.
He had been released a few hours later but had been battling a bad case of flu.
Local authorities said a death investigation was underway at Prince's Paisley Park complex, but did not give the identity of the fatality, as per AFP.
The pop star was touring and recording right up until his death, releasing four albums in the last 18 months.
Known for his songs like ''Let's Go Crazy" and "When Doves Cry", the legendary musician is said to have sold over 100 million records during his career.
His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed the news to agency Associated Press.
Prince's debut album was "For You" and was released in 1978.
His self-titled second LP was released in October 1979.
His other albums included - Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Sign O The Times and Batman.
Prince became an international sensation in the 1980s, when he popularised the Minneapolis sound of danceable funk.
His 1984 album "Purple Rain" is often described as one of the greatest of all time.
He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 in what is said to be one of the greatest live performances of all time.
In 2004, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame, which hailed him as a musical and social trailblazer.
He married twice - the first time to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia. They split in 2000.
He then married Manuela Testolini. They split in 2006.
