Spirituality: Lord Shiva's 'Mahamrityunjaya Mantra' for conquering death

Lord Shiva is one of the widely worshipped Hindu gods. Also, known as Mahadeva—Shiva forms one of the important pillars of the Hindu trinity—Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Bhole Nath cures all the illnesses and fears residing in any of his devotees. In order to overcome and conquer fear of death, Shiva bhakts can chant the ever powerful 'Mahamrityunjaya Mantra'.

This mantra, also known as the 'Triyambakam Mantra' is taken from the Rigveda, and is attributed to Lord Shiva—the three-eyed lord.

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra:

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिंम् पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ।।

Om tryambakam yajāmahe sugandhim puṣṭi-vardhanam ǀ

urvārukam-iva bandhanān mṛtyormukṣīya māmṛitāt ǁ

Also, you will find many a times, this mantra is preceded by:

aum hrauṁ jūṁ saḥ/aum bhūrbhuvaḥ svaḥ and followed by aum svaḥ bhuvaḥ bhūr / aum saḥ jūṁ hrauṁ aumṁ, which is its Tantric version.
